Dear Reader,
India and Germany signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on the Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development in May 2022 to address the challenges related to green and sustainable development, climate change and the environment. As Global Partners, both countries support a long-term cooperation agenda for achieving the SDGs and their respective climate targets with a focus on conservation, protection and sustainable use of natural resources, agro-ecological transformation, the Bonn Challenge and forest landscape restoration, ecosystem restoration, environment and biodiversity protection to implement the future Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), among other targets. Both agreed that sustainable development is essential to ensure that more people have access to good health, healthy ecosystems and ecosystem services, education, employment and a better standard of living, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recognising how biodiversity loss is jeopardising sustainable economic development and human health and wellbeing globally the Group of Seven (G7) nations advocated urgent steps towards adopting a transformative GBF at the G7 Summit in June. While pushing towards timely implementation of the GBF for an ambitious and effective framework to be adopted at the 15th Conference of the Parties of the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD COP 15) they also committed to revising and enhancing their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans by CBD COP 16. They reiterated their support for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and increasing ambitious restoration initiatives nationally, regionally, and globally.
Acknowledging that digitalisation can significantly contribute to combating climate change and protecting the environment the countries urged for harnessing net-zero, nature-positive, and resource-efficient economies and digital ecosystems. In the 20th issue of our newsletter, we are featuring an article on digital tools and biodiversity and an animated short film on regenerative organic agriculture. We thank you for your support and welcome your valuable feedback towards further improving our engagement with you.
Stay safe and healthy.
Warmly,
